Botanical Art

I mentioned in a previous post that I was going to use some free botanical prints from this website.  Originally, I planned on using these 6 prints; however, two of them were such bad quality they did not print off well and narrowed it down to a grouping of four.

Next I headed to the Family Dollar store and picked up these 8x10 frames for $3/each.

Then sprayed them Rustoleum's Heirloom White.

One of the many things I dislike about hanging photos is repositioning again and again AND adding hole after hole in my walls.  So, I made a template and used that as my guide so I could play with the spacing and positioning to make sure I had it correct before hammering away.

Here they are all up!

Lamp Complete!

I know it has been days since I last posted, I am having a hard time adjusting to the new "summer" schedule.  I used to run my errands while my kids were in school, finding lots of fun treasures to makeover.  Now, not so much.  My kids DO NOT want to go anywhere, especially thrift stores.  Like Saturday for example, I finally got out and about (thanks to great neighbors who watched a few of my kids while hubby was out of town) and got to run some errands.  I made it to Target to purchase a lamp shade I needed to complete this lamp here.  Now that I got the shade I figured I could post about it this past weekend.  WRONG, got home and realized I got the wrong size shade.  BOO!  Bribed my kids yesterday with store treats to run more errands, one being return and repurchase the correct shade.  And FINALLY I have a completed lamp that I can share with you.  At this rate, it is going to be one long summer I tell ya!

Remember my $6 thrift lamp I first rewired here?

here is the after:
I also mentioned here about using this color:

I found out a couple things regarding that post that you might want to keep in mind.

1.) When ordering a special color you have to purchase the group of 6 cans they come in, not just 1.

AND...

2.) Certain Sherwin William locations (if you are local the one in Provo does this) will customize your spray paint for you.  You bring in the color you want, they match it, and put it in the spray can for you.  However, this can be expensive.  You have to buy the quart of paint that they custom color for you, along with $13/can for them to fill the can.

Both more money than I wanted to spend on one little lamp.  So, I searched Walmart, Lowes, and Home Depot and found no Krylon Satin Hyacinth.  However, someone suggested Roberts Crafts which fortunately had it!  Yippee!  It was $8.99/can :(, but I used a 40% off coupon to get it a little cheaper.

I really do like the color!

Before & After Girl's Room After Some Changes

Here are a couple before and after pics of the room with the furniture back in place.  Since my daughter is getting older we are putting away the bears, and I am in the process of finding different "more grown-up" accessories for the room.

We have agreed on doing a collage above her bed of these free vintage botanical prints I mentioned about here:

And here they are framed and hung above the bed:

We have a couple other ideas planned that I will be sure to tell you about later!

Bead Board & Painting is DONE!

I cannot even begin to tell you how happy I am this painting is done!  I get so excited to start a project I seem to forget how time consuming it might be.

Here is a sneak peak at the bead board and new paint color that is now f.i.n.i.s.h.e.d. in my daughter's room:

Now to put the room back together and accessorize!

Spring/Summer Beauty

I LOVE the beauty that spring and summer have to offer.

I thought I would share one of my favorite things about spring, and that is some of my flowers that bloom only during this time.  Oh how I wish I could enjoy this color all summer long!

Fortunately, these below do bloom all summer!  I have them on my front porch in front of my window.  I love to open my window and smell them throughout the room when the breeze blows thru.

Rewiring The Chandelier - It Actually Works!

Remember this chandelier I posted about a couple days ago?

Well, the wiring in it was definitely faulty and very old.  I temporarily installed it to see if it worked, and only two of the five lights worked, and one flickered.  I took it apart and found this old cloth covered wire...can we say fire HAZARD?

I did a lot of research, and had a very helpful electrical personnel at Home Depot get me the correct wiring that I needed.

When I took all the arms off, it looked like this:

S.C.A.R.Y.!  I was so nervous I couldn't get it back together correctly!??

I got to work and replaced the sockets with brand new ones to be safe:

And then redid all the wiring in each arm of the light:

Next, I put it all back together and had to make sure each of the "hot" wires of each arm got attached to the main "hot wire", and so on with the "neutral" wires.

Then I had to repaint the entire thing again since I dinged it all up taking it apart and rewiring it.

And....

It WORKS!  Hallelujah!

I love it, and am so glad I could fix it and make a perfectly good old chandelier new again.

Thrift Store Chandelier

I found this chandelier at Savors thrift store for $20.  The paper sticker underneath it all says it is from 1891.

Originally was going to put it in our guest room; however decided against it.  It has sat and sat and now I have found the perfect home for it, my daughter's room makeover.

One problem though, I think it needs to be rewired and I do not know how to do that :(
I have only recently rewired a lamp which is much less difficult.

Unfortunately, I got ahead of myself and already spray painted it making my issue of rewiring it even more difficult, I AM SO IMPATIENT!

I really hope this turns out, I love it!

*Side Note* - check out this post here of the makeover and final reveal of this chandelier!

June Decorating Tip Of The Month!

One thing I have learned in the decorating industry is to not purchase "sets" of furniture.  Break it up!  For example; pick a sofa, but instead of purchasing the love seat or matching chair to accompany it, choose two different arm chairs instead.
